A National Bestseller and winner of the 2024 Thomas Raddall Atlantic Fiction Award, this novel is also a finalist for the 2023 Writers' Trust Atwood Gibson Fiction Prize. It's a captivating tale of five generations of Metis women who argue, dance, struggle, laugh, love, and share stories to heal their family and perhaps even the land itself. Carter, a young mother, explores her Metis heritage, while Allie seeks to make up for lost time with her daughter and protect her from past hurts. Lucie wants her granddaughter's help to join her ancestors in the Afterlife, and Genevive battles her demons with her sister's support. Meanwhile, Mame in the Afterlife knows her story started it all and must find a way to free herself from the living world, just as the others find their own paths forward.
